CNC ย่อมาจาก Computer Numerical Control หมายถึง การควบคุมการทำงานด้วยคอมพิวเตอร์ เมื่อระบบCNC ถูกนำมาใช้ในเครื่องจักรเราก็จะเรียกกันว่า เครื่องแกะสลัก CNC Rounter หรือ เครื่องแกะสลักขนาดใหญ่ โดยระบบ CNC จะควบคุมการทำงานต่างๆ ของในเครื่องจักรอัตโนมัติภายใต้คำสั่งภาษาเครื่องที่เราสร้างขึ้นมา.
ความเป็นมาของเครื่องแกะสลัก CNC Rounter
เครื่อง CNC เริ่มมีการพัฒนามาตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ.1960 โดยประมาณ โดยพัฒนามาจากระบบ NC (Numerical Control) หรือการควบคุมด้วยระบบตัวเลขซึ่งจะเป็นลักษณะกึ่งอัตโนมัติ คือ การเคลื่อนที่ในแกนต่างๆ จะเคลื่อนที่ไปตามระยะที่เราได้ป้อนไปในแต่ละครั้ง. เครื่อง cnc หลังจากนั้นก็มีการพัฒนาชุดคำสั่งต่างๆ ขึ้นมาเป็นโปรแกรม ทำให้ให้การทำงานสะดวกขึ้นมากเพราะว่าเราไม่ต้องมาป้อนคำสั่งทุกๆ ครั้ง เพื่อสั่งให้เครื่องจักรเคลื่อนที่ แต่ชุดคำสั่งนี้จะทำงานตามคำสั่งตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบตามที่เราต้องการ โดยปัจจุบันชุดคำสั่งดังกล่าวจะมีการพัฒนาไปมาก นอกจากจะควบคุมการเคลื่อนไหวขอเครื่อง CNC แล้ว ยังมีหน้าที่ควบคุมฟังก์ชั่นการทำงานต่างๆ ของเครื่อง CNC ได้ด้วย. ซึ่งชุดคำสั่งนี้เราเรียกกันว่า "G Code" และ "M Code".
