เมื่อเวลา 13.00 น. วันที่ 15 มี.ค. 2566 ร้อยตำรวจเอกกฤติเดช จันลา รอง สว.(สอบสวน) สภ.มัญจาคีรี จังหวัดขอนแก่น รับแจ้งจากศูนย์วิทยุ 191 ว่าเกิดเหตุต้นไม้ล้มทับคนตาย ในพื้นที่บ้านป่าผุ ข้างถนนสายบ้านป่าผุ – บ้านนาจาน ตำบลสวนหม่อน อ.มัญจาคีรี จ.ขอนแก่น ก็เลยรายงานผู้สั่งการทราบก่อนรุดไปตรวจตราจุดเกิดเหตุ พร้อม พ.ต.อ.พิชัย ที่นาขันดี ผู้กำกับการสภ.มัญจาคีรี สายตรวจ ชุดสอบสวน หมอ และก็ข้าราชการกู้ชีพ โรงพยาบาลมัญจาคีรี

เมื่อไปถึงที่เกิดเหตุ อยู่ขอบหนองน้ำในพื้นที่บ้านป่าผุ เจ้าหน้าที่พบต้นไม้ ซึ่งเป็นต้นจิกขนาดใหญ่ ยาวประมาณ 15 เมตร ทับร่างนายมิ่ง อายุ 62 ปี ประชาชนมูลตุ่น ต.สวนหม่อน อำเภอมัญจาคีรี จังหวัดขอนแก่น เสียชีวิตคาที่

ข้าราชการกู้ชีพ ช่วยเหลือ และชาวบ้าน ช่วยกันตัดต้นไม้ นำร่างคนเสียชีวิตออกมา โดยภาวะศพ นอนขดงอ คว่ำหน้าสวมหมวกลายทหาร ใส่เสื้อแขนยาวสีดำ นุ่งกางเกงขายาว ลายปิดบังทหาร มีรอยแผลหัวแตกสมองกระจาย ซี่โครงหัก ขาขวาหัก ลำตัวมีบาดแผลฟกช้ำ

พ.ต.อ.พิชัย ไต่สวนเพื่อนคนงานที่มาตัดไม้ด้วยกันกับคนตาย ทราบดีว่า เจ้าของที่ดิน ว่าจ้างนายมิ่งกับประชาชนรวม 4 คนมาตัดต้นไม้ออกจากขอบสระ ในราคา 6,000 บาท ซึ่งเมื่อถึงหน้างานต่างคนต่างตัดต้นไม้ นายมิ่งเลือกตัดต้นจิกที่มีลำต้นสูงและก็ใหญ่ เพื่อนพ้องๆบอกให้คอย แต่นายมิ่งไม่รอ ทุกคนก็เลยไม่ขัดเนื่องจากนายมิ่งมีความชำนาญสำหรับในการตัดไม้มานานยาวนานหลายปีแล้ว
