ส่วนตัวผู้เขียนเคยชมเวอร์ชั่นการ์ตูนมาแล้ว แต่นานมากจนไม่ได้จำรายละเอียดต่างๆ ได้อย่างแม่นยำมากขนาดนั้น แต่จำไฮไลต์ของเรื่อง และเนื้อเรื่องตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบได้ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้น พบว่าตัวเองสามารถดูภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ได้อย่างเพลิดเพลินกว่าที่คิด เมื่อวางอคติเรื่องหน้าตาของแอเรียล โดยมองว่าแอเรียล (แสดงโดย ฮัลลี เบลีย์) เป็นแค่เงือกน้อยธรรมดาๆ คนหนึ่ง ที่สงสัยใคร่รู้เกี่ยวกับโลกมนุษย์ ตกหลุมรักมนุษย์หนุ่มคนแรกที่เจอ ผู้ซึ่งมีอุดมการณ์คล้ายกันกับเธอ จนยอมสละเสียงของตัวเองเพื่อให้ได้ขาเดินเยี่ยงมนุษย์ แต่ด้วยความไร้เดียงสาและไม่คิดไตร่ตรองให้ถ้วนถี่ดีพอ ทำให้รู้ว่าการสละเสียงเพื่อขาไม่ได้ทำให้เรื่องง่ายอย่างที่ใจเธอคิด ทุกอย่างนี้ในภาพยนตร์ถ่ายทอดออกมาได้เข้าใจง่ายและกระชับฉับไวไม่น่าเบื่อ
 
แต่สิ่งที่ไม่พูดถึงไม่ได้คือเหล่าสารสัตว์ผู้พยายามช่วยให้ภารกิจจุมพิตกับเจ้าชายประสบความสำเร็จ ฉากที่คอยช่วยเหลือทั้งสองคนอยู่เบื้องหลังเป็นหนึ่งในช่วงของภาพยนตร์ที่สนุกที่สุดในความเห็นของผู้เขียน สนุกจนคิดว่าถ้าไม่มีตัวละครเหล่าเพื่อนของแอเรียลเหล่านี้ ภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้คงไม่สนุกเท่านี้ (น่าจะตรงกับเวอร์ชั่นการ์ตูนด้วย) รวมไปถึงตัวละครออกโรงใหญ่โตอย่างแม่มดทะเลเออร์ซูลา สูตรสำเร็จตัวร้ายที่เล่นได้น่าหมั่นไส้ดีทีเดียว
 
ด้านงานภาพก็สวยงามตกแตกถึงขั้นว่าคนที่เรียนหรือทำงานด้านกราฟิกหรือด้านภาพยนตร์คงต้องคาระวะ ภาพใต้น้ำช่วงร้องเพลง "Under the Sea" สีสดสวยงามและเป็นไฮไลต์ของภาพยนตร์เช่นกัน รวมถึงฉากอื่นๆ ที่มีกราฟิกเข้ามาช่วย การเคลื่อนไหวของผมใต้น้ำ ทำได้ดีเป็นธรรมชาติดูแล้วไม่ขัดตา
